ETEC 424:Introduction-My First Blog 9/7/2011

Good evening all. My name is Robert Wolfe, I am 49 and I’m currently a senior here at TAMU-Commerce. I am an All-Level Kinesiology major with plans to stay here long enough to get my Doctorate. I am a Student Assistant Coach for the Offensive Line here for the Lions and this makes my dream come true in the area of Coaching. I attended school here from 1980-1982 on a football scholarship where I was the starting Left Tackle for a Quarterback named Wade Wilson, who some of you might know is the Dallas Cowboys Quarterbacks Coach today.
If I were teaching today, I would want to include every available type of software that was useful for me and my students. My most immediate concern is Coaching and when I was playing 28 years ago was if we had film to watch of the opposing team we had to use a reel to reel or 8mm. Today we have the privilege of using this new software called “Hudl”. We can email anyone involved with our team at anytime or we can watch film at anytime, as long as you have a computer you can almost do anything today. When we want to watch film of that weeks opponent all we have to do is have that team send us their video via the internet and pas that film on to anyone signed up with our Hudl site.  When I was in high school our biggest thrill was having a projector in our room and getting beeped by someone on our “beepers”. They didn’t have X-Box or Play Station, I-Pods, I-Pads, Cell Phones, Computers, Laptops, Notebooks, or Digital Cameras. So for those of you who don’t think that physical activity and the digital technology can’t go hand in hand are misinformed. When you discover the item called “Wii” or the add-on called “Connect”, you’ll see the ability I’m talking about. So, in my classroom I would find out every available kind of technology that was useful for my class and I'd teach everything so my students could have a large vault of tools to use in the real world.
I have already had lots of reflection of my time here at TAMU-Commerce and I am really looking forward to learning everything from Web 2.0 and Digital Natives, Interactive Whiteboards, Web Searches, Web Quests, and anything Microsoft can produce. I want to be one of those teachers, coaches or administrators who are helping to transform the minds of our kids with today's and tomorrows technological power. Since we have been called to reflect here and see where we and technology have grown and progressed to, so will the kids we teach, they will be able to reflect and show someone else their new experiences they have learned, and we had a part as we shared in their lives. In effect, my goal is to gain a basic understanding of all this new technology I am learning in this class. I am enjoying learning how to blog, do an e portfolio, and seeing whats new in educational technology.
