ETEC 424:Copyrights, Fair Use, Cyber bullying, and Netiquette

This assignment for Week 5 has saturated my mind with copyright, fair use, cyber bullying, and netiquette information that will guide me for a lifetime. I haven’t covered every detail regarding these topics but what I have learned will help me to gain more knowledge in being smart and careful about what’s done on the net. An example of proper copyright use is that “Copyrighted material used in multimedia projects may remain in the student’s portfolio forever”. An example of fair use is “A teacher rents Gone with the Wind to show the burning of Atlanta scene to her class while studying the Civil War”. This is proper use of fair use. An example of Cyber bullying is attacking others online, by saying things that are hurtful, insulting or controversial. So with proper netiquette, cyber bullying can be totally abolished or put behind bars! Netiquette is teaching others to avoid hurting others feelings, respect for others online experience, if someone insults you, let it go, always respect the privacy of others, be responsible when you are online, and finally teach and help others be responsible and learn how to use the net…!
I have just touched the surface with these examples of Guidelines for being a responsible internet user. I feel that knowing these laws and rules will not add up to much if we keep them to ourselves. We must put these into practice and protect our loved ones, acquaintances, students and peers. Let us remember that these laws and rules and guidelines have been put together to protect people and even enrich them. In total, education benefits society, let’s use it correctly!

  1. I too feel like I haven't learned the entire information on copyrights. I think I will always be referring back to these websites to help me out in any question of whether it is safe for me to use such-and-such for my class. I read all the information, but I had some trouble on the quiz, just because something may seem fair, it really isn't. All in all, you had a good number of insights.
