ETEC 424: Web 2.0 Applications and their Benefits in Education Today…Week 7

This week has been an exciting adventure of learning about the difference between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0, wiki’s, social bookmarking, and voice threads. I had no clue that anyone could create their own wiki. All I knew of was the site called Wikipedia. A site I use all the time to find information I need to use for class or topics I want to know more about.  Organizing a family reunion or a camping trip would be a great time saver for the ones involved in going. What an awesome tool to use and teach, especially in my Phi Pi Delta organization where we have several functions to coordinate. I would find it so beneficial in setting up a Chili/Stew/Soup fund raiser so that everyone could see what’s needed and everyone could coordinate together and get the job done so much quicker. It would save time and efficiency regarding emails and meeting face to face. You could spend your time much more effectively. The advantage of social bookmarking is fun, useful, and social. I have a young nephew that is struggling with math and I can see how this would benefit him as I picked out some great math sites to help him with his fractions. Voice threads are such a powerful way to talk about and share your pictures, documents and videos.
Use of Web 2.0 would be beneficial for everyone involved. I know students would enjoy integrating these aspects as this technology is emerging in classrooms all over the world. The ability to communicate so much easier and as a teacher you could get so much more done while you’re in class with your students. Training can be done while in class and homework can be achieved while at home, like it should be done. Families and any social group could utilize these functions to make communication very effective.

  1. I am very much looking forward to putting my social bookmarking together. What a time saver this is going to be. I have been so frustrated when I am struggling to find a site that I had bookmarked on another computer. What else am I missing out on?
